History of St Edmund Hall AFC
St Edmund Hall have traditionally been a powerhouse in college sport and have dominated the college Rugby scene for many years. It looked like this may be replicated on the football field in the 1960s and 70s as the Hall won a record 9 successive Cuppers trophies between 1964 and 1972. Not surprisingly, during this time there were many outstanding personal achievements, with goalkeeper D Baxter winning Cuppers a record 5 times, 3 players lifted the trophy on 4 separate occasions and 10 players won Cuppers 3 times. Apart from this period of dominance, St Edmund Hall have only won Cuppers 3 other times, in 1952, 1957 and, most recently, in 2006. Despite the obvious strength of the Hall team over the years, there is only 1 documented case of them winning the inter-college league, in 1993/94. This may be partially explained by the number of Blues players they have provided over the years, since the 2nd World War there have been 113 Blues awarded to 65 Hall players, more than twice the number of the next highest college.
